Expert Training

SSY Trainee Scheme

With over 140 years’ experience, SSY is widely regarded as one of the world's most trusted names in broking, offering a comprehensive and integrated suite of broking services via its 25 local offices.

Through our London Trainee Scheme, successful applicants get the opportunity to learn from some of the most experienced names in shipping over a 12-month period. In addition to expert divisional training, we will also ensure the trainees are educated in the principals of shipping, as well as take part in networking opportunities and a series of port visits and vessel trips.

Job description:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Administrative Assistant to support our Sale & Purchase Desk. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong organizational skills, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for supporting a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

• Data Entry: Accurately input and maintain information in our Sale & Purchase database.
• Database Management: Ensure the various databases are consistently updated, organized, and accessible.
• Reporting Support: Assist in preparing and distributing reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Administrative Support: Handle a variety of administrative tasks, including filing, correspondence, and scheduling as required by the desk.
• Team Assistance: Provide general support to the Sale & Purchase Desk to enhance team efficiency and productivity.

Skills required:

• Proficiency in English: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are essential.
• Experience: Previous administrative experience is preferred but not essential. Experience in data entry or database management is a plus.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Familiarity with database tools is advantageous.
• Attention to Detail: Ability to input and manage large amounts of data accurately.
• Organizational Skills: Capable of prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively.
• Team Player: A collaborative mindset with a willingness to assist wherever needed.

Due to our continued growth, we are now looking for a Junior KYC Analyst to join our Compliance team in Athens, Greece.

Job description:
Assisting the KYC Manager in the day-to-day counterparty KYC screening processes (KYC Onboarding/KYC investigations), including administrative tasks, and in maintaining the counterparty control framework for all entities across the unregulated business divisions. This role requires strong research skills, attention to detail, and the ability to learn quickly.

Responsibilities:

Assisting the KYC Manager in:
• Answer KYC questionnaires provided to us by clients
• Keeping and maintaining an audit trail of actions undertaken
• Perform data entry and administrative tasks related to KYC processes
• ‘Alerts’ generated from the party screening platforms, the actioning of potential matches
• Completion of any remedial actions required, as they may relate to any counterparty relationship
• Identify areas for process improvement and automation to optimize KYC operations and efforts to deliver better outcomes
• Owners and Charterers listings, along with the corresponding folders within which all KYC documents / correspondence is stored
• Periodical reviews of counterparties (ongoing screening and monitoring) by confirming KYC data requirements, collecting relevant KYC
• Review of transactional data, to monitor potential red flags in transactional activity which require further investigation by the KYC Manager
• Counterparty KYC processes – in line with the prevailing KYC process, assisting undertaking and performing KYC Due Diligence on new clients, counterparties and other stakeholders (as may be appropriate), and the utilization of the prevailing platforms available to SSY to support the management of counterparty relationships, engaging with the brokers to collate the necessary documentation

Skills required:
This role is ideal for someone who is diligent, eager to learn, and has a keen interest in KYC frameworks. We're looking for a candidate who can demonstrate:
• Understanding of KYC principles and what “KYC” means
• Strong research skills and the ability to gather and analyze information efficiently
• Drive and self-motivation, quick learner with the desire and commitment to succeed
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Collaboration, able to work well with others across diverse backgrounds to share information, develop skills, and deliver results
• Resilience with the ability to adapt
• Smart problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a curious and inquisitive mind

Other requirements:
• Minimum 1 year of previous relevant work experience (KYC/AML/Investigations/compliance related) within the KYC/Onboarding department of trading/shipping companies (preferred)
• Previous usage of business tools for risk management (preferred)
• Well developed written communication skills.
• Good Microsoft Outlook/Word/Excel skills.
• Good intellectual ability.
